Murray Reid

To those of you who may not have received the sad news, Murray Reid, a life member of the club, died after a short illness. Murray’s funeral was held at All Saints Chapel, Purewa, on Tuesday January 21.

An article on Murray’s valued involvement and contribution to the club will be included in the next club newsletter, due out in late February.

Events at Eden Park

The following non-rugby events are still to be held at Eden Park before the Super Rugby competition gets underway:

1.Saturday February 1 – A League football. Phoenix v Adelaide
Regrettably, there is not enough interest in this game to open the clubrooms. The club will therefore not be open this Saturday for the game.

2.Thursday to Monday February 6-10 – Cricket Test, Black Caps v India, 11.00am – Ticket price: $45.00 per day

3.Saturday & Sunday February 15-16 – League NRL 9s – start time to be confirmed – Ticket price: $250.00 total for both days

As previously advised, non-rugby fixtures are charged for separately by EPT for each club box. We must, therefore sell all tickets for each box, for each event, to ensure we don’t incur a financial loss for the Club. At this time, there are only a few tickets available for the League 9s but plenty of seats available for the cricket test.

Please contact the secretary to purchase tickets for the league and cricket test events as soon as possible at:

Subscriptions

Again, as previously advised, 2014 subscriptions are now due and should be paid as soon as possible. Membership and a visitor card are mailed to each member following payment of your subscription and 2014 cards are now needed to gain entry to the clubrooms at Eden Park. There has been a good, early response from members, who have paid on the invoice sent out in early January. Please pay your annual subscription as soon as possible to assist in covering our administration costs.

Also, thanks once again to Peter Thompson and Barfoot and Thompson for enveloping and mailing out the 2014 subscription invoices.

First club night for 2014: Friday January 31

The club will be open for the first time in 2014, for members and guests, on Friday January 31 from 4.30pm onwards. Dean Paddy and his helpers will look forward to welcoming you into the clubrooms for the first ‘club night’ of the year.

Bar assistant

As you will know, Dean Paddy is responsible for hosting a welcoming and efficient Barbarians club bar in the clubrooms. The bar is an important, integral part of ‘what we do’ in the Barbarians Rugby Club and it takes a lot of organising and management time to get the great results achieved by Dean and his team.

With added pressure on staff, we would like to appoint another helper to assist Dean.

The role is unpaid and it is essential that whoever volunteers will be prepared to gain their bar managers’ licence, the cost of which will be paid for by the club.
If you are interested, please let the secretary know (email sec@brfc.co.nz or phone – 09-846-7241) and Dean will discuss the details of the job with you.
