2017 Club Captain’s Report

What a stellar year 2017 has been for the club an international fixture against the touring Lions and our continued support and management of fun days, Under 85kg rugby, NZ Barbarians Area Schools, Top 4 and now girls’ Top 4 and NZ Barbarian Schools. As each year our programme roster grows and diversifies, we acknowledge the increased workload of the management and committee, the fantastic continued support of our sponsors and members, and our partners, NZ Rugby and NZ Schools.
Whilst being able to attend and participate in the more social side of all these games and events, it is always humbling to receive the feedback from players and management on what the jersey and the ethos of our club means to them and how our ongoing assistance and support in these ventures is essential to their ongoing success.
We congratulate our President Ron Williams, on what has been one of our busiest years to date and the way he has led our club and been at the forefront of all our projects. Whilst attending, speaking or presenting at all of these functions, he has continued the outstanding service our past presidents have given the club.
The house always has a long season, NRL Nines, cricket, test matches, Super Rugby games, Mitre 10 Cup, and, finally,in December the Christmas party. Trina and her team have taken on the management of the club and continued the excellent standard of service we have received in years past. We are continually improving the structures within the running of the club as we know the importance of this to our members and project funding.
Our event programme includes bowling, golfing, fun days, and rugby. Please attend, participate or just contribute to these days as we always appreciate and enjoy the fellowship of our members and friends.
Our new member induction evenings are always a pleasure to attend. The informal acceptance speeches they present to our members are a highlight and exemplifies what it means to them to become a member of the Barbarian club.
After six years as club captain, I would like to thank the club management and committee for their assistance and support over this time. There have been moments when things were very stressful and thankfully more times when things are so gratifying. The time and energy every member gives to our busy programme truly makes up what the club is all about.
To all our members and friends, I wish you a safe and enjoyable Christmas break.

Cheers,
Mark
